In a horizontal mill a horizontal arbor holds the cutters and the table usually rotates by +/- 15 degrees to allow shallow angle milling. The arbor mounted cutters have a cross section similar to a circular saw although wider and smaller in diameter. With good support from the arbor, heavy cuts can be made enabling a fast removal rate. One popular use of horizontal mills is to mill slots and grooves.
